Our first moments home with our brand-new baby donkey could not have been sweeter! We’ve been looking for a while for the perfect new donkey to join the homestead and ...be a companion for Thomas, our one-and-only resident donkey. What we didn’t expect was for that new friend to come in such a tiny, wiggly, absolutely precious little package… a BABY donkey!

In today’s video, you’ll get to meet her during her very first moments at Homestead Horsemanship. Watch her go from shy and unsure—keeping her distance and not wanting to be touched—to soaking up all the hugs, snuggles, scratches, and love. Her little personality blooms so quickly, and those baby legs running around will bring a smile to your face no matter what kind of day you’re having.

We are also so excited to officially share her name with you!

A Day In The Life Of A Horse Trainer!

Come along and experience what a typical day looks like here at Homestead Horsemanship! While there’s plenty of horse training to do, chores always come first — feeding round bales, ...turning horses out for exercise, and making sure everyone is happy and healthy before training begins. Today, I’m working with a few client horses:

•Breezy – our beautiful Clydesdale mare, currently in cart training. She’s making great progress and will be staying with us for about another month as we fine-tune her skills.

•Bella – a buckskin Missouri Fox Trotter who’s just green broke with a couple of weeks of riding under her belt. She’s doing awesome and improving every day!

•Later in the afternoon, I’ll be pulling some horseshoes before wrapping up the day with…

•Legacy – another Missouri Fox Trotter. He arrived a few weeks ago, but his training got a short pause due to a leg cut that needed some care. Now that he’s healed, we’re getting back into the swing of things!

Every day brings something new here at Homestead Horsemanship — from caring for the horses to building their trust and skills.

Catching Up With Oliver | Back In The Saddle With My Rescued Clydesdale!

Today we saddle up two of our favorite Clydesdales for a beautiful fall trail ride! Oliver, our rescued Clydesdale stallion, has come such a long way since we first brought ...him home from an auction over two years ago. He was severely sick when he arrived at Homestead Horsemanship, but after lots of love, care, and time, he’s now living his best life.

Joining him on the ride is Breezy — a client horse currently in training with JR. This is Breezy’s first time out on the trails with someone other than JR, and she does amazing! It’s also Oliver’s first ride back in the saddle after taking the summer off due to the heat. With cooler weather finally here, it’s the perfect time for our big guy to stretch his legs and enjoy the trails again.

Come along for a relaxing ride, beautiful scenery, and two incredible horses showing just how gentle and willing these big breeds can be.

NEW HORSE ALERT! Meet Bella the Missouri Fox Trotter

We’ve got some huge news to share — there’s a new face in the barn! Meet Bella, a stunning young Missouri Fox Trotter who will be competing in the 3-Year-Old ...Futurity next year. Her family has brought her to JR with high hopes that he can help turn her into a champion! Bella has never been ridden before, so she’s starting her training completely from the ground up — an exciting journey we can’t wait to share with you.

We also catch up with Legacy, another beautiful Missouri Fox Trotter who was actually born right here on our homestead! He’s now owned by a good friend of ours who plans to show him next year as well. JR will be training both Bella and Legacy through the winter and spring — so stay tuned to follow their progress every step of the way!

Watch as these two young horses begin their paths toward the show ring and see what it takes to turn natural talent into future champions.
