We feel truly blessed to have one of his granddaughters here with us at Homestead Horsemanship.

In 2024, after Oliver and Nattie became part of our family, we couldn’t help but start dreaming about adding a third Clydesdale to the team. Nattie still had a few years before she’d be ready to work beside Oliver—or maybe even have a foal with him someday. In the meantime, Oliver seemed eager for a buddy to train with and pull double. And truthfully, the idea of welcoming another Clydesdale mare into our lives just felt right. It was the next step in a journey that had already brought so much joy to our family.

We were searching for the most promising mare we could find—someone who would not only complement Oliver and Nattie but truly become part of the family. Our search took us far from home, even all the way to a farm in Oklahoma. It was a long drive, but we were full of excitement and hope. When we arrived and met the mare, everything seemed to fall into place. She was beautiful, gentle, and appeared to be the perfect fit for our growing team.

For a while, it felt like this might be the moment we’d been waiting for. We imagined her trotting alongside Oliver, someday teaching Nattie the ropes, and becoming part of the daily rhythm of our lives. But just as we were preparing to take the next step, a misunderstanding over the price brought everything to a halt. It was disappointing, of course—but we also believe things happen for a reason.

As we made the long drive home, we talked it over as a family. Sometimes, the right horse—and the right moment—just hasn’t come along yet. That experience reminded us to be patient and trust the process. The right mare would find her way to us when the time was truly right.

A few weeks later, fate stepped in.

We received a call from an acquaintance we had met at the same Clydesdale sale where we found Nattie. The year before, we had sat beside him as he bid on a striking black mare named Beauty. We remembered her and we had been genuinely happy for him when he won the bid.

Over the following months, Jr and our new acquaintance stayed in touch. He was in the process of building a black Clydesdale team and had been searching for the right partner for Beauty. One day, a black roan Clydesdale mare named Luna appeared in a Facebook listing. She looked promising—sound, well-trained, and a strong match for his growing team. Jr shared the listing with him, and not long after, he purchased the mare. A few weeks later, he sent us videos of his new team in action—Beauty and her new partner working together beautifully.

Then, life shifted in an unexpected way.

Just days after we decided to pass on the mare from Oklahoma, we received a call from our friend with heartbreaking news. One of his mares, Luna, had developed canker—a serious and often stubborn hoof disease that can lead to lameness and tissue decay. Already facing personal challenges, he found himself unable to provide the intensive care she required.

Knowing we were still searching for the right addition to our team, he made a generous offer: the healthy mare, Beauty, could be ours at a fair price—if we were also willing to take in Luna and give her the chance at recovery she deserved. It was an unexpected turn, but one that spoke to the trust and connection we’d built through our shared love for these incredible horses.

We were understandably nervous—canker is a serious and often challenging condition to treat. But Jr felt a deep sense of responsibility. After all, he had played a part in finding the mare and understood the difficult situation our friend was facing. In the end, we chose compassion and commitment over caution. And just like that, we brought home not one, but two Clydesdale mares: Luna and Beauty.

Much of our energy in those early months went to Luna’s care. Canker isn’t a quick or easy fix—it requires daily dedication, patience, and a whole lot of heart. Every day meant hours of cleaning, treating, wrapping, and gently encouraging her through the discomfort. It was hard work, but we approached it with faith—faith that healing was possible, that our efforts mattered, and that Luna’s story wasn’t meant to end in pain.

We weren’t alone. Our community quietly showed up for her and for us—offering supplies, checking in with messages of support, and lifting her up in prayer. That sense of shared hope made all the difference. While Luna was part of our family for only a season, we knew from the beginning she was just passing through—on her way to something better.

When the time was right, we found her a place at a loving sanctuary, surrounded by caretakers who understood her journey and could continue the healing we had started. Today, Luna lives peacefully, with open pasture, gentle hands, and the kind of love every horse deserves. It was hard to say goodbye, but we let her go with full hearts—grateful for the role we were able to play in her recovery, and trusting that she was exactly where she was meant to be.

And that brings us back to Beauty’s story.

From the moment we first saw her at the sale, we never imagined that Cey’s Black Beauty—registered with the Clydesdale Breeders of the U.S.—would become a part of our family, especially under such unique circumstances. While we were simply a stepping stone in Luna’s journey to healing, it quickly became clear that Beauty was always meant to find her home with us.

Beauty is truly special. Gentle and graceful, she perfectly lives up to her name. As a black Clydesdale, she carries a rare and highly sought-after color within the breed, making her even more remarkable. Beyond her striking appearance, Beauty is an exceptional trail horse—traveling smoothly and confidently under saddle, exactly what we had hoped for. Over time, she has become the perfect partner for Oliver, complementing him both in work and spirit.

And now, we have even more exciting news to share—Beauty is expecting her very first foal with Oliver, due in March 2026! This marks a beautiful new chapter for our family and our Clydesdale team. The anticipation is already building as we look forward to welcoming the next generation—a foal that will carry the legacy of two exceptional horses we’ve grown to love deeply.

We feel incredibly fortunate that Beauty and Oliver have found each other, and we are eager to see how their foal will grow and thrive in the years to come. This little one represents hope, continuity, and the future of our team. As we prepare for this special arrival, we’re reminded once again of the joy and unexpected blessings that come with caring for these magnificent animals.

We eagerly look forward to watching the next chapter of her story unfold, filled with promise and new beginnings.
