Lakota
Lakota is a very special boy and has been part of the Homestead Horsemanship story from the very beginning. Born on April 12, 2023, during the first year our YouTube channel really began to take off, many of our longtime viewers have watched him grow from his very first breath into the handsome horse he is today.
Lakota certainly made us wait for him! His mama, Sioux, carried him for an incredible 362 days before finally giving birth to her colt. He arrived weighing 116 pounds, and although we were expecting a pinto, he surprised us with a beautiful sorrel coat and a big blaze.

We chose the name Lakota because of his connection to his mama, Sioux. Lakota is another name associated with the Sioux people and also honors the Lakota heritage associated with Chief Sitting Bull. His registered name is Homestead Lakota, but around the homestead, he’s simply Lakota.
Lakota is especially precious to us because he is Sioux’s first and only foal. Sadly, Sioux unexpectedly passed away the following year. She will forever be remembered and held dear in our hearts, and Lakota carries on a very special part of her legacy.
Lakota has always had a heart of gold. He is sweet, laid-back, gentle, and easygoing, and we often affectionately call him “a good ole boy.” He has grown up right here at Homestead Horsemanship, surrounded by our herd and watched by thousands of people who have followed his journey over the years.
Our plan is to begin Lakota’s training in 2027, taking the time to give him a solid foundation before he eventually finds his new partner in life.
From the little colt we waited 362 days to meet to the handsome horse he is today, Lakota has become a very special part of our family and the Homestead Horsemanship story.
